As mentioned on TMA, an opportunity to volunteer to build a 'Neolithic House' near Salisbury.
Be part of an archaeological experiment and help us present the story of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. Using traditional building methods and locally sourced materials, you will help recreate a Neolithic house based on archaeological findings.

Worth a spot in Cheers & Boos maybe?

One for Goff to get his teeth into, possibly?

Taken from FB:
This is just to let you know of the launch of a new holy well / water lore orientated forum - HOLY WELLS & WATER LORE...also including the lore of rivers, lakes, etc .
I was a contributor to the National Wells Index forum, but since that sadly appears to have declined terminally, and unable to find an alternative, I finally came to the conclusion that if I wanted a holy wells forum I'd have to do it myself. So I have !
Incidentally, I've mailed details of the new forum to old NWI members - if you're one of those under another username and have already received details, apologies for wearing out your inbox.
You are hereby cordially invited to visit and, if you like what you see, sign up and share your knowledge, photos and videos. There are also opportunities for promoting your own holy wells-orientated websites. Conversely, any mention / link you could give to this site would be appreciated. Its very early days yet (official launch date is today, Oct 20) and everything is pretty fluid, so if you have any suggestions for improvements, feel free.

A YEAR after a hoard of Roman coins was discovered on Bredon Hill, a campaign to ensure the important find stays in the county has raised nearly £9,000.

Museums Worcestershire has been working hard to raise the £40,000 needed to acquire, conserve and display the hoard, which was discovered last October.

They now have just two months left to raise the remaining cash for the hoard, which is currently in the British Museum.

Grrr! And...
Donations can be made online at charitychoice.co.uk/worcestershire-hoard/ or by visiting the Museums Worcestershire website museumsworcestershire.org.uk. People can also give by texting COIN11 and the amount of money to 70070, or by popping into the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, the Commandery in Worcester or the County Museum at Hartlebury
Metal detectorists are not a bloody charity!!!

What a missed opportunity!
English Heritage is helping to co-ordinate the first volunteer crowd-sourcing project to tackle heritage at risk at a local level.

Over the next year or so, English Heritage will be working with local councils and other bodies in the heritage sector, to set up a framework that will allow local groups, universities and others to help carry out surveys of England’s 345,000 Grade II listed buildings.Councils will then be able to use this survey data to target resources on those buildings most at risk.

How many years ago did we suggest something similar for our prehistoric heritage? And got totally ignored for having the temerity to suggest 'the public' might be useful?

Oooh! Has anyone seen this?
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 28636.html
They have been out of fashion for about 5,500 years. But a Wiltshire farmer is hoping to bring back the long barrow – pre-historic tomb – by building one on his land.

Tim Daw, 52, has been granted planning permission to create a 50m (164ft) walk-in burial mound at his family farm near Devizes. Several members of the public have already signed up to have their ashes buried there. It will contain seven circular chambers lined with niches for storing ash-filled urns. When full, the barrow could house the remains of up to 2,400 people.
Sounds interesting...

Ah, it's the guy that runs http://www.sarsen.org/ - he's also got a Facebook Group for this project at https://www.facebook.com/groups/461357813920636/ and seems to have been done to death on TMA. Seems I'm late to the party (again!) on this one.

1,000 pounds for a family shelf is a bit steep. For that I'd want a 5,000 year lease.
