Finds Liaison Officer Somerset

Post by goffik » Thu Jan 31, 2013 12:14 pm

Anyone got a few hours a week spare for the next few months?
Based at the Somerset Heritage Centre, Taunton

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a scheme to encourage the voluntary recording of archaeological objects found by the public, including metal detector users, to advance archaeological knowledge and to increase opportunities for active public involvement in archaeology. Somerset and Dorset County Councils work in partnership to run this scheme across both counties. The post-holder will work closely with the Senior Finds Liaison Officer who is based at Dorchester, Dorset.
The successful candidate will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline, or considerable relevant experience and specialist knowledge of finds recording. You must have a flexible approach and be willing to work outside normal office hours e.g. to attend meetings.

As Finds Liaison Officer you will make contact with members of the public such as metal-detector users, explain the aims of the Scheme and the Treasure Act to the public and heritage professionals and identify, research and record finds on the Portable Antiquities Scheme's database.

The job involves travelling to locations inaccessible by public transport. This is a fixed term appointment for one year to provide maternity cover. It will start as soon as is practicable after the interview date.

Hmmmm, I had an out of office reply from her before Christmas saying she was on holiday, to be followed by maternity leave, so they've known about this for at least 2 months, if not longer.

Here's hoping all goes well, and she has her own little 'treasure' to care for (sorry!)

How many MD clubs and rallies in Somerset I wonder?
