No more Time Team
Well that is the end of Time Team and ironically, it now becomes history itself. Time Team first go me interested in history as I know it did to many others. I know plenty of people who I would not call history buffs, but who always enjoy Time Team so its legacy spans a broad section of society. It ...

Clooties
I enjoy finding ancient wells which often are adorned with Clooties left by visitors. Each has a story to tell, which I find interesting as to what people hoped for with their Clootie offering. Some people don't like Clooties but they certainly bring a place alive and bridge that gap between ancient...

Re: Churches - Crumbling Heritage
Thanks I would love to know the definitive answer to the Green Man icon but there seems to be lots of theories that are very contrasting. It's strange that the reason behind such a powerful image that was obviously was so important to people at a distant point in time has been forgotten. Does anyone...

Re: Churches - Crumbling Heritage
Thanks for the info Alan. I was coming back from a conference in Cardiff and my Sat Nav took me cross country when I came across the sign for the screen at a place called llangwm. This is it here. Stunning, full height with loft. http://places.wishful-thinking.org.uk/MON/Llangwm/StJerome2.jpg http:/...

Churches - Crumbling Heritage
I have an interest in old churches, especially those little churches and chapels that are off the beaten track and perhaps now rarely used. It's amazing that we see medieval archaeology and stare into the ground at what remained of long lost buildings imagining what they must have been like. We visi...

Re: Can Neanderthals Be Brought Back from the Dead?
I don' think we need to look too deeply into elements of our current society to realise that the Neanderthal Gene is not that far from us.

Re: History - the publics interest levels
What is interesting is that if you dig a hole for whatever reason, people come and look into it whether it is an archaeological dig hole or a services contractor digging up a high street. If you have a site of a Roman villa and part of the excavation is left exposed then people come and see it. Cove...

Re: What's your favourite site?
Its a nice site, but would be nicer without the carpark!Soldier's grave is well worth a shufty if you happen to be this way again. Of course you;d be more likely to find me at Hetty Peggler's Tump, especially now its been repaired and re-opened. I've not been since before it shut, but love it there...

Re: What's your favourite site?
Another favorite of mine is Nympsfield long Barrow. It's near to the Nympsfield gliding club where I occasionally used to fly so got to know the area on visits. http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/img_fullsize/90663.jpg The barrow itself is not that impressive but the setting is. http://www.brilwalk...
